About the Unit
The Potentate's Escort Unit is one of the leading units of the Yaarab Shrine in Atlanta, GA. We have exceeded fundraising goals in the Circus and Hospital events the last eight years in a row, and plan to continue. And, what do we do? As our name implies - we escort the Potentate at parades and other Shrine functions.
All members of the Potentate's Escort Unit own and ride Arctic White Shrine Edition Harley-Davidson FLHTCUI (Ultra Classic Electra-Glide) motorcycles. The first edition of this model came out in 1995 and featured the Shrine 125th Anniversary Logo. This model used the Harley-Davidson Evolution carbuerated engine. In 1999, Harley-Davidson changed to the Twin Cam 88 electronic fuel injected motor. These motorcycles all weigh in excess of 900 lbs. and it takes practice to maneuver safely in parade routines. For that reason alone, the unit holds several practice sessions for members to attend. To really hone in our our skills, we annually attend the "Ride Like A Pro" course in Tampa, FL. Not only is it an excellent class, but a fun weekend trip for the guys.
The unit meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Our meeting room is located in the basement of the Activities Building at the Yaarab Shrine. Guests are invited to attend our meetings.
Joining Our Unit
To join this unit a prospective candidate will need to have a Shrine Edition Harley-Davidson FLHTCUI before an application can be submitted. The motorcycle can be acquired in a variety of ways. The most common is to order from one of the local Harley-Davidson dealers. Contact us to get a list of dealers that we work with for best pricing. For those considering membership, plan on being active - we expect it and receive it from our members. You'll see a significant number of our members at all Shrine activities and other sponsored events in the area.
